Cinehack is about hacking film.
It’s about the stuff you won’t learn at film school…
They say ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ :: Cinehack was born from necessity – or at least the need to endure after throwing ourselves head-first into the unknown on a variety of modestly ambitious film projects! We know that were not the only ones doing film projects as labours of love, and, sadly, we still live in a world where unlimited funding isn’t the norm. So, we’ve developed this site to support lo/no-budget filmmakers and provide a place to gain and share insights which might be interesting to newbie movie-makers and cinematic old-hats alike.
Our ambition is to help build a community of cinehackers who can share knowledge and ideas through this site, but also link through to the many other pockets of activity elsewhere on the web – if this is you, please ‘befriend’ and hopefully we can work together.
Here’s our contribution – you’ll find ideas here for shortcuts and tricks to cover most of the complex, expensive and difficult technical aspects of film-making, whether it’s toy-helicopter aerial shots or building your own motion control rig for £100.
Some of these techniques we’ve developed ourselves. Some of them we’ve borrowed from clever people who weren’t afraid to improvise and refused to be constrained by budget, contacts or imagination!
We hope you enjoy the site – please tell your friends about us!
